What a dreadful disaster in India! A couple of the news sources are reporting now that most if not all of the victims escaped the burning factory unharmed, only to be killed by a sudden effusion of bombs and rockets as they stood outside counting heads.

I like fireworks, and for me, at least, it makes the news more depressing than if they'd just died in some random accident, like a boiler explosion or the like. It's always worse when something festive goes wrong.

I'll give Obama credit for self-confidence in having invited Bill Clinton to speak at his convention. Clinton is one of the greatest Presidents of the 20th century. Had I Obama's record, I don't think I'd invite the comparison.

I long ago gave up watching the conventions, since they're basically just three night long commercials these days. So, of course, something interesting actually happened this time.

I'm reminded of the EU, and their entire "we're gonna vote until you get it right" philosophy.

Hmmm. The NOs had it, IMO. Not by 2/3, but more than 50%, I think. I am certain, though, that the YESs did not have the 2/3 majority required. This may come back to bite Villaraigosa someday...

Incidentally, Clinton was the last President whom I voted FOR. Most other elections, my vote has been cast AGAINST their opponent.

I'd be heartily in favour of rescinding the 22nd Amendment so we could have Clinton again.

I fucking hate how Clinton took credit for things he didn't even fucking do. It wouldn't fucking kill him to say "Congress helped me with this" and so on.

His arrogance was part of what I liked about him. He carried it very, very well. He was basically just a complete alpha male, the stallion in charge of the herd who will take care of you and make sure everyone is looked after, but you have to submit. A lot of politicians, CEOs, etc, try to be that way, and very few of them can really carry it off. He could. I always felt secure with him in charge.
