My new kitchen timer has a magnetic bottom, which I'd not noticed when I picked it out. I can wind it up and stick it to stuff, and pretend it's a limpet mine!

I'm making beef jerky with my new food dehydrator. I'm less than enamoured of the way it smells. I should have thought to do a dry run to burn all the 'new' smell off the heating elements. I marinated the beef pretty seriously with cracked black pepper, chopped garlic and Worcestershire sauce, though, so hopefully it won't affect the taste.

My actual intent in getting it was to dehydrate cooked vegetables so as to have them at work to add to ramen. I love ramen cups (and I've got medication that has to be taken with food anwyay, so breakfast has become de rigeur), but they're getting way too stingy on the veggies these days. That's going to have to wait until I get cheesecloth, though, so the cubed carrots, peas, etc, don't fall through the cracks.

30 minutes later, and the dehydrator's smelling a lot more like the marinade, and a lot less like hot steam pipes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who briefly plays "spy/action movie" when setting the kitchen timer and then sticking it on the fridge.
