Modern Times
Feb. 4th, 2013 11:21 pmI just bought a complete set of Jules Verne's work - every novel, every short story, every poem, every essay, every history book, every stage play - all for $2.99 in Kindle format. The original illustrations are included, and each work has a short scholarly preface. Some of the more obscure novels have yet to be translated from the French. The publisher promises that they'll update the book as the translations become available. It's obviously a labour of love.
It amazes me to live in such times. If that were a set of physical books, it would probably come to some 50 volumes and cost a fortune. It would occupy an entire bookcase. I can haul the entire thing around with me in my tablet, and have it to read anywhere I want. This isn't the world I grew up in. I sometimes feel like I'm living in an SF novel.
