I'm writing to urge you to vote against the Manchin/Toomey amendment. While the amendment itself is a commonsense piece of legislation, and would deserve support if offered as a standalone bill, passing it under the current circumstances would simply encourage the anti-gun extremists and further polarize the situation. Please vote against the whole gun control bill. Later, perhaps a few months down the road, it might be possible to introduce standalone legislation to accomplish the same effect.
