Vatican declares Mexican Death Saint Blasphemous! Some phrases are just designed to stick in your mind forever...

It's kind of a shocker to me that the Pope just up and declared 800 martyrs as saints. I'd thought there were particular requirements that a person had to intercede with miracles in response to prayers before they could become a saint. I may well be wrong on that, though, or perhaps people prayed to them as a group.

I waffle back and forth on a pretty regular basis between being horrified by Michael Jackson, and feeling sorry for him. I'm definitely ast the 'sorry' end of the spectrum right now. Here his family is, suing his theatrical manager, claiming that they didn't keep close enough track of his private life to know what was wrong. That's what family is supposed to do. They should have been the ones talking to him on the phone every so often, asking about his life, asking about his new doctor, etc. Apparently they couldn't be bothered with that sort of emotional engagement, but never fear! Their loss can be assuaged with a big pile of money.

I remember the really amazing Santa Muerte worship scene from Breaking Bad. I wonder if they really do crawl on their bellies to the shrine as shown or if that was just hollywood at play?

Dunno. The Cleveland Road Meijer's here has a pretty good selection of Mexican magical candles, some that are obviously Christian (the Virgin of Guadeloupe and the Sacred Heart of Jesus seem very popular motifs) and some (perhaps the majority) that look more appropriate to voodoo ceremonies. That's about as much contact as I have with the topic.

I'm absolutely smitten by the phrase 'Mexican Death Saint', though!
