Powerball!

So, I hadn't really planned on getting a Powerball ticket, but there was some cretin on the radio carrying on about "Oh Noes!11!1! When people buy lottery tickets that means they don't understand probabilities, and they spend money they can't afford, and it's a regressive tax on Our Most Vulnerable Citizens...", and on and on and on, so I got three.

From my perspective, it costs $2, it's fun to take part in a fad (I never buy the things unless there's a huge jackpot and people are standing in line), and somebody is going to become an uber-millionaire instantly, and it's fun to know I helped build up the massive pile of money for him.

The pot was over $600 million last night, and some people are saying it might top out over a billion by drawing time. All of the numbers are expected to be subscribed by drawing time as well, so someone's gonna get rich tonight!

I got myself a couple. I mean for $4, a chunk of which goes to help fund education and a possibility (even if damn slim) of winning half a billion before taxes is worth it in my opinion.

They're fun, basically, and it's a voluntary tax. It's a far better system that entices people to give the state their money than one that forces them to.
