The Young Prince

So, what do people think the young Prince will be named? I'm rather hoping for 'George', myself.

For some reason, I had a brief urge towards 'Yukon Cornelius', but I can see how that might not be appropriate for a king.

George would be proper, but the name in general usage has become archaic. It has a rough-hewn sound to it, almost abrasive, and little of the requisite sense of glamour. Overall, there's been remarkably little diversity in English/British regnal names up to this point. My hope is that they will choose a name that hasn't been used before, like Francis did for his papacy. Christopher, Alexander, Michael, and Paul come to mind.

The name comes from Virgil's Georgics, I believe, so is more an earthy than a glamourous name. I couldn't help but think of that again today when I saw Prince William on TV in his shirtsleeves, dressed basically like any common man.

Paul and Alexander sound more Russian or Balkan to me.

There were three Kings Alexander in the Scots Royal Family. Even three Constantines.

Ah! I see Alexander is on the 'short list' (at least as far as bettors are concerned). Interesting! Am really praying against Louis, though. I've never liked that name. Too French.

Well, there's already one Frenchy in the family: H.R.H. Henry William Frederick Albert. (Everyone seems to've forgotten that his real name actually is NOT "Harry".) But Louis, please, no. I realise it would be an homage to William's granduncle, Louis, Earl Mountbatten, but William's father already did that with him: H.R.H. William Arthur Philip Louis. No need to continue that into another generation.
