A Stulgy Saturday

So, sometimes you're gonna have those days where you drop a relatively new bottle of expensive Vietnamese soy sauce onto your freshly mopped kitchen floor. This seems to have been one of them.

I like the scent of soy sauce, but didn't really wish the entire apartment to smell of it.

I haven't used the carpet extractor since Chris died. I was in the middle of cleaning and decorating for Halloween when it happened, and just never felt like it afterward. The carpet was getting thoroughly nasty in consequence.
Today, I got it out, and began cleaning with it. It makes an incredible difference. The used water was completely black when I poured it out of the tank, and the very bottom bit was kind of sludgy. Admittedly, this was the absolute worst part, right by the front door where dirt gets tracked in, but still...

I was gonna go to the Indiana State Fair with my mom today, but she was sick, and I'm still getting over the sinus infection that made me miss the final weekend of the Ohio State Fair, so I had a domestic day instead. There's something really, really pleasing about doing that on a sunny Saturday. The process inevitably involves trips to the store every few hours, and it's just neat being out on the same day as everyone else, shopping and having a good time. Having Saturday and Sunday off makes a great difference to my mood.

My main connectivity here is cable. I now have a battery-powered 3G hotspot too, so that I can failover when (as happened the other night) the cable or electricity goes down. It takes a bit of getting used to the idea that I actually have failover connectivity on my home network, and did it without trying to be extreme or ironic or anything. It wasn't many years ago most businesses didn't even have that.
The best part (and why I bought it) is that the hotspot is portable (it will literally fit in my shirt pocket, although it runs hotter than hell*, so that's maybe not a good idea), so now I have internet pretty much anywhere there's 3G coverage, which is just about everywhere. The world changes so fast these days.
*To the point where the manufacturer explicitly warns against decorating it with paint or stickers, as those will impair its ability to cool itself.

And now I'm making beef jerky, with worcestershire, garlic and black pepper :)

Actually, I prefer that outcome, but what I usually get is yellow water that smells of dog pee.
I wish I knew of a better manufacturer of carpet washers than Bissell. They're sold everywhere, but don't last very long.

Date: 2013-08-11 05:43 pm (UTC)LOLOL!! That completely cracked me up, for some reason, although since I've still got lung congestion my insane cackling ended in a paroxysm of coughing and wheezing :)
I've had two Bissels now (I gave the older one away and upgraded to a newer one with attachments) and have been really happy with them. My mom's, on the other hoof, broke after about a year, and I've heard bad reports from others too.
Rug Doctor sells home versions of their extractors these days, at least in the States, but those things are huge, and would take up the entire closet. It's not that hard to get a used commercial machine, too, if you want one that will last forever. You need a garage or a basement to store that sort of thing, though, and they're costly, even used.
