So, last fall Funtown Pier in Seaside Park was pretty much destroyed by the hurricane. Against all expectations, the owners decided to rebuild it, and were well along with the project. Today, it caught fire, exploded, then fell into the ocean. I can't help but think of the Swamp Castle from "The Holy Grail".

Actually, Funtown Pier was not rebuilt and it was doubtful that any attempt would ever be made to do so, as only a tiny remnant of its ruins were left. The little bit of Funtown Pier that was left did burn down, but if you look at pictures of it from just before its final destruction you will see it was only a sad little fragment anyway. What was rebuilt was the Seaside Park boardwalk, and that is what burned down, along with the businesses on it.

You are probably thinking of Casino Pier in the adjacent municipality of Seaside Heights, which is partially rebuilt, and which was not damaged in the fire.
