I've given up on my off and on desire for a complicated and dangerous Victorian gasogene seltzer maker*, and have instead bought a safe, modern SodaStream machine. It's not going to be as exciting as the gasogene, obviously, but it's still pretty entertaining to use.

You have with this device the advantage of being able to carbonate whatever - Ribena, Mio, fruit juice, etc. I quite like the soda syrup provided with the machine. It's not a very close match to Coke Free (which is obviously what they're aiming for), but it pleases me.

I certainly don't propose to pay $30 for a proprietary CO2 canister refill. I'll be looking into getting some sort of adapter so it can take regular CO2 canisters for $5 or so.

*They were known to occasionally explode with moderate violence, so that the number of surviving examples appears to be few.

And... "Caution: Do not insert your finger in the bottle opening." You just know there's an embarassing story behind that.

I saw those at WalMart... but just couldn't figure I'd use it enough ^v^

I got mine at Sam's Club. I'm liking it quite a lot. It works well, you have no limits on what flavours you can make (SodaStream sells a wide variety of syrups, but you can use literally anything you want), and it's fun to use! It's as much a toy as it is a kitchen appliance. :)
