I had no idea who he was so I had to look him up. "England's most controversial intellectual" escaped from national service by "falsely claiming that he was a homosexual." Considering what is sometimes done to military poofters, this seems like rather a daring approach to getting out.
I have (barely) heard of Aleister Crowley. Wilson wrote an "unsympathetic biography" of that Satanic fellow.
You should read some of Wilson. I think you'd be impressed.
Edit: And Crowley, I fear, was a bit of a poseur. Wilson was the real deal, IMHO one of the most important intellectuals and literateurs of the 20th century.
