The Wrath of Librarians

Like Rabs noted, that was just about perfect. Any prior weakness in the season is more than swept away by the finale.
*****
During the first half, when Twi announces that she's going to go dwell in the Castle of the Sisters, my first reaction was to wonder who'll be the new librarian.
*****
"You're a Princess. You'll play your part." can have several interpretations, all operating at once.
*****
G1 Tirek had (and used) the power to transform Ponies into very large, fierce Dragons. That would have been an interesting temptation to have laid before Rainbow Dash, I think, although considering that she turned down the Shadowbolts, I doubt it would have gotten that far.
*****
Twilight's reaction shot when she realizes that Tirek has just blown up her library with all of her books inside is priceless. The volcanic rage that follows is such a contrast to the usual sweet, self-conscious little Twilight, but perfectly in character. The willingness to allow the characters to be themselves is one of the things that I like best about FiM.
*****
I'm somewhat embarassed that I didn't see the Rainbow of Light coming.
*****
After Tirek blasted all of his power at the Six hanging there in the Rainbow of Light's protection, and they just continued to float there, completely unaffected, his cry of "How can this be?!?" was just so corny and entirely 80s. I'm sure that was on purpose. I've become spoiled by FiM and expected a more emotionally realistic reaction, probably just a silent "Uh-oh... This isn't good" expression in a closeup, right before he panicked.
*****
I'm glad they didn't keep their Rainbow colouration. I didn't like that at all - very subdued, sombre colours, really, even if an elaborate design.
*****
Magnificent closing song!

And Loganberry, I'm sorry that I spoiled Tirek for you! I was just that excited, though, when I saw that he was going to be the villain!

Date: 2014-05-19 02:48 am (UTC)One thing I think particularly impressive about the episode is that everyone seemed to like it. People who'd been fans right from the days of Tirek the first time round and those who've never watched anything pre-G4. That takes some doing.
I'm coming round to the idea that Twilight's rage was only secondarily because of the destruction of her library, and primarily because Tirek came within a whisker of killing one of her friends -- Owlowiscious. As the (soon-to-be) Princess of Friendship, that was not only personal, but also striking directly at the thing that she upholds above everything else.
I still don't think I've found anyone who likes the Rainbowfied ponies! I wonder how well Hasbro did with the Rainbow Power sets... probably quite well, actually. Especially the one with a new Fluttershy mould and a (non-Rainbowfied) Derpy.
As it happens, I was also spoiled for Tirek by a YouTube comment, so it didn't make any difference in the end. I certainly wasn't worrying about it. =:)
