Train had managed to stop, although the back end had cleared the intersection, and firemen and sheriff's deputies were walking up and down the track, presumably looking for the missing pieces. Pretty much what you see in the picture.

"Stop, Look, and Listen" is apparently not a thing anymore.
And: It's almost midnight. I can finally hear a train going through the crossing again. They are absolutely laying on the horn. Stuff like that has to be nightmarish for an engine driver, as there's not a thing they can do but watch helplessly.
