I think America needs a true multiparty system like virtually every other democracy in the world. Perhaps antitrust laws could be used against the two main parties similar to how they were used against labor unions in addition to corporations.
Heya. I addressed the idea of a UK-style multiparty system at https://xolo.livejournal.com/556669.html . That was roughly the last thing I expected anyone to say, and it set me thinking. Best wishes!
How about no parties at all? Let every candidate stand for office on their own beliefs and positions on the issues. There isn't a single word about the establishment of political parties in the constitution, you know. I'm frankly amazed the institutionalization of 'parties' in our government structure has never been challenged on a constitutional basis.
Heya. You may enjoy https://xolo.livejournal.com/556669.html . Calls for the end of the two party system was roughly the last thing I expected anyone to say, and it set me thinking. Best wishes!
Well, they didn't really start as "Let's form a political party!", as much as "Well, our positions on most issues are the same. We should work together.", and then you need a name to easily refer to that set of beliefs...
I sometimes wonder how things would have turned out if Washington could have been prevailed upon to be our King.
