So, I'm not the only person stupid enough to have done this, and I apparently thought of it about 40 years before anyone else, too.
To be honest, the idea is probably as old as sticky tape. There seems to be a modern assumption that the first time a fad shows on the internet marks its actual beginning.

I skipped watching the America / Thailand game, as I had stuff I needed to get done, and figured it would be a steamrollering anyway. Well...
There seems to be some criticism, mainly here, that running up the score was unsportsmanlike. If it were two American teams playing one another, I'd agree, but as several foreign friends have pointed out over the years, that seems to be mainly a US / Canadian thing, and nobody else sees it that way.
If advancement comes down to points differential, we're covered.

After watching France / Korea, and now America / Thailand, it's difficult to avoid the conclusion that some of the teams are just added to the schedule as filler.
