Magic Lantern
Feb. 7th, 2019 11:35 pmSo, I keep running across references to Aleister Crowley these past few days. A few things I've learned that I didn't know before:
The character Karswell, in MR James' "Casting the Runes", is supposedly based on Aleister Crowley. It's kind of obvious once it's pointed out, but I'd not realized before.
Edith Nesbit, a favourite author, who wrote the decidedly furry "The Phoenix and the Carpet" (the Phoenix has a huge crush, obvious, although never really remarked upon, on one of the human characters, who is completely oblivious) was a member of the Crowley-related "Golden Dawn". Didn't see that one coming.
