Aug. 27th, 2021 05:16 pmSo, per Mudlet, at least, Ubuntu has veered far enough from Debian that it's classed as its own thing now, no longer a generic Linux. I gave up finally on Windows 10, and went back to Ubuntu. Entirely too many annoyances to deal with in Windows, including "updates" that reset all of your settings, or trigger nag alerts that 'suggest' (in the name of security, you understand) that you return everything to default settings.
I actually installed "Zorin", on a whim, which is an Ubuntu that's pitched at beginning users switching from Windows, and supposed to be safe and easy to use, then immediately threw those benefits away by installing packages from outside of the distribution, so yeah, off to a good start here.
So far, I'm having fun :)

So, the Maldives would like their debt forgiven, because otherwise they're unable to help fund the all-important fight against climate change. That was the story earlier this week, for western consumption.
The big Maldives story in the Times of India is how they're taking a huge loan from India, so they can build new freeways and bridges.
