I'm amused by the speed with which Hamas backed down on their earlier decision to start targetting US citizens and interests. Their leaders seem to have at least /some/ instinct for self-preservation, for all that they seem willing to send out 14 year old boys as suicide bombers.

The Phoenix

I've discovered an online repository of Edith Nesbit books with which I keep myself occupied at work, since there's so very little to do these days. I'm currently re-reading 'The Phoenix and the Carpet'. I'm reprising my childhood crush on the Phoenix. Robert, the human, seems by turns completely oblivious to or embarassed by the fact that the good, beautiful Phoenix completely adores him. You want to swat Robert now and again for being a bit of a doofus.

So, being Joe Cool and all, I decided to optimize my Linux installation. Being Joe Cool and all, I ended up with a completely hosed installation that wouldn't even boot. I finally just had to reinstall over the top of the old one. Fortunately, my /home partition wasn't affected, so I've still got all my stuff. This weekend, I'll have another go at it.

This is actually kind of fun. :)
