Fairs and Festivals

Elkhart County Fair is cancelled. They're taking the somewhat dishonest position that it's merely "postponed", and will run concurrently with the 2021 Fair.

Kosciusko County Fair is going ahead, but will have no animals, sadly. We've been here before with swine flu, etc.

Marshall County Fair still looks okay, but their old 2019 schedule is still on the website. I'm not sure if that's hesitation, or just small town half-assery.

Flags are up on Main Street here, even though there's no Egg Festival this year.

Indiana State Fair, so far at least, seems to be forging bravely ahead.

The Machine Stops

And, someone else discovers E.M. Forster's "The Machine Stops". I first read it at about 13 or 14, as one of the 'retro' stories in a Perry Rhodan monthly. Forrest J. Ackerman was the editor for the American editions, and a tireless promoter of Golden Age and prior SF.

If you've not read it, you should. There's a link in the article. It's quite an amazing piece of work, in a number of ways. Even if you don't much care for old SF, this is a classic.
