He was hoping to hit Hitler with his Hitler-hitting hammer.

He was happy to hit Hitler with his huge, humongous hammer.

This looks like a good company overall. Among their other products, they have action figures of famous composers, Sherlock Holmes, Oscar Wilde, Pope Innocent III, and Marie Antoinette (with ejecting head). These are more interesting than the action figures I used to get as a kid.

Some of the most remarkable volcano pictures I've ever seen.

Okay, finally I have an answer.

Same as the shirt contest, but grayscale is also permissable (as well as
short stories and poetry).

The pictures of the exploding mud-balls are fascinating. I wish there was something in the picture to scale them by. (They look huge, but the truth is never that cool.)

I'm guessing that when he says "like soccer balls" he's speaking of their size. His command of English is a bit shakey, admittedly. Also, the perspective on the balls makes it look like the camera is being held at perhaps a quarter to a third of the ball height, which works out to soccer to beachball sized if the camera is an inch or two off the (flat) ground.

There're so many astonishing things here, all in one place. The glow from inside Merapi's lava dome, the blue sulphur flames shooting out from under the crust, and the barbell lightning display. These are things you read about and see drawings of, but seldom photos.

It doesn't hurt either that he's at Merapi and Tengger, both of which impress me deeply with their cartoonlike potential for widespread destruction.
