So, the jolly Russians are drilling down through two miles of ice to get at bacteria that no-one has been exposed to for millions of years. What could possibly go wrong?

Woohoo! Kenyatta wins the Kenyan election! This pleases me on several levels. First, unlike Odinga, Kenyatta hasn't declared his pathological hatred of gay people. Secondly, it provides potential embarassment for the ICC, which is always a good thing.

On a whim, I bought frozen pizza, which I usually don't anymore. It's Freschetta's Harvest Supreme pizza. Damn, that's a good frozen pizza!

Well, on the plus side, million-plus-year-old bacteria is unlikely to be particularly infectious for any modern-day species. On the minus side, being million-plus years old means it'd be pretty hearty and tenacious and any infection it CAN do will probably last. But back on the plus side, it's not going to be antibiotic-resistant.

Honestly, bacteria that are evolved to live in frigid, anoxic water are probably going to find humans searing hot and corrosive. Still, it's fun to think about. In the end, I'm just bloody-minded :)

Yep, also it's funny to see life imitate a TV show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReGenesis).

I was thinking, "Yeah, they evidently don't watch a lot of old science fiction movies there in Russia..."
